As of the close of business last night March 14, all recreation outlets in Langford are closed for 30 days. That includes all activities at the North Langford Recreation Centre, Goudy Turf Field, Westhills Stadium, both dry and ice rinks, Playzone and Langford Bowling Lanes.

The decision was made in consultation among the City of Langford, the North Langford Recreation Centre and the Operator of City Centre Park (Performance Plus Hockey: PPH). Those entities “worked together to review facility operations and jointly determined that it is in the best interest of public health and safety to close all recreation outlets including all activities”.

“The closure will be in effect for 30 days and will be continually reviewed to determine if the closure will be extended.” it is stated on the City of Langford COVID-19 information page.

A statement from the City about City Centre Park includes:

“While as of the posting of this notice there remains to be no confirmed cases of the COVID-19 virus in Langford, both the City and PPH have decided it is in the public’s interest to limit unnecessary exposure by taking a proactive and preventative approach.”

The City has also postponed any event where 250 or more are present. Further, the City is discouraging any gatherings of 50 or more people.

“Residents should consider not attending any small or medium sized public gatherings to limit the spread of the virus”, it was stated.

While Pacific FC has not officially stated any postponement of their season which is set to start with a home game at Westhills Stadium on April 11, that date does fall within the 30-day parameters of the City’s 30-day closure period for events with people of over 250.

“We appreciate your support and understanding during this challenging time. We are confident that by acting swiftly and proactively, we can limit the impact of this situation and resume regular business as soon as possible,” it was stated as signed by Kristin St. Cyr, Operations Manager, City Centre Park and Langford Fire Chief Chris Aubrey as Public Health & Safety Committee Chair.
