As of Sunday March 15, World Health Organization (WHO) Report #55 statistics show 153,517 confirmed COVID-19 cases globally (up from 142,539 yesterday and 132,758 the day before), with 72,469 of those cases being outside China which was the epicentre of the disease (up from
61,518 yesterday and 51,767 yesterday).

In total there have been 5,735 deaths to date (up from 5,393 yesterday and 4,955 deaths as the tally on March 13) due to COVID-19. Of those deaths, 2,531 are outside China (up from 2,199 on March 14 and 1,775 on March 13).

Now 143 countries have reported confirmed cases (up from 135 yesterday and 122 on March 13).

In Canada, residents are asked not to travel outside the country and to return home if they are presently outside the country. This is partly to deal with public health system management as the number of cases of COVID-19 very likely ramps up, as well as the availability of enough personnel at border entry points. As well, Canadians could possibly become caught in quarantines in other countries at any point now, and would then be dependent upon a foreign country’s health care system if they get sick.

There are over 300 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Canada today March 15 (current to 4 pm Pacific Time), since the WHO report was out for today.
