This morning a motor vehicle incident at the intersection of Highway 1 and West Shore Parkway has resulted in closure of the northbound lane.
According to reports, Langford Fire Rescue acting Assistant Chief Simon Chadwick said the call came in just after 10 am for a report of a multi-vehicle crash and fire. Other reports say the incident happened around 10:30 am.
A white SUV reportedly collided with a dump truck then burst into flames at the intersection. That ended up causing a seven-car pile-up before all was done, resulting from multiple collisions of five vehicles after the initial incident.
All occupants were out of their vehicles when emergency crews arrived. Five people were taken to hospital with various injuries.
Drive BC said to expect minor traffic delays. As of 11:30 am, Langford Fire Rescue at first indicated no time of reopening. After a few hours traffic was up and running again.
