[Update January 24, 2023: so far there are 814 children registered for Kindergarten — Nature K and French Immersion, and part-way through Regular Kindergarten registration which is open to 3 pm Jan 27, 2023. Associate Superintendent Paul Block says that is a bit low for Regular Kindergarten, but there are still three more days for registration.]
Regular Kindergarten registration for September 2023 in Sooke School District (SD62) opens Monday morning January 23 at 8 am and closes at 3 pm on Friday January 27. Registration is done online.
The SD62 school district is growing quickly, particularly in Langford and Colwood. A lottery will take place for schools that have more registrations than seats. You can still register for kindergarten after this time period, your child(ren) will be placed at a school will available kindergarten seats after the lottery has been completed.
Registrations for Nature K and French Immersion Kindergarten have waitlists (registration was done January 9 to 13).
Children who turn age 5 years in 2023 (i.e. born in 2018) are eligible for Kindergarten for a September 2023 start. Across BC, there are 853 hours of instruction for each Kindergarten child through the academic year.
How to Register:
1. Read the Registration Guide to make sure you have the required documents ready to upload during registration. Students will not be officially registered until all documentation is uploaded.
Uploading Documents: Don’t have a scanner? Please provide CLEAR photos of the documents. If the document cannot be read clearly, it will not be accepted.
2. Online at registration.sd62.bc.ca .
SD62 schools:
There are 29 schools in SD62, located in Langford, Colwood and Sooke but also delivering public education for families in Highlands, Metchosin, East Sooke, and west of Sooke, who commute into the centralized schools.

Two new schools opened in west Langford (one elementary, one middle) in September 2022. A new school on Latoria Road in south Langford is expected to open in September 2025.
