A mini ‘forest of trees‘ will be donated to people who attend the Sooke Seedy Saturday event on Saturday March 30.
The annual event which celebrates food sustainability in the Sooke region is being held at Sooke Community Hall on Shields Road in Sooke, from 10 am to 3 pm.
Sooke Seedy Saturday is organized by the Sooke Region Food CHI Society.
Event admission is free, with donations welcome at the door.
Donation by Sooke Builders Association:
The 270 seedlings that will be distributed free to attendees are being donated by the Sooke Builders Association (SBA), a new organization with already 50 housing sector members.
“As developers, we recognize the importance of community well-being,” says a Sooke Builders Association spokesperson.
“Handing out these trees is a proactive way to contribute to our local environment, enhance our community and most importantly support the incredible work undertaken by the Sooke Food CHI,” says a representative of the organization.
“We are very grateful for this donation,” says Sooke Food CHI President Ellen Lewers.
Fir, cedar, and hemlock:
The donated seedlings are of several tree varieties: Douglas fir, western red cedar, western hemlock, noble fir, and Pacific silver fir.
The seedlings were purchased at Arbutus Grove Nursery in Saanich where they specialize in quality reforestation stock.
