~ by West Shore Voice News
There are 2,762 BC Hydro customers without power in the South island region as of 4:30 pm today December 27 (affecting Duncan, Galiano, Ganges, Mayne, North Cowichan, Pender, Saturna).
Some outages have crews assigned, others have crews enroute or on site; over 55 crews are actively engaged in restoration today.
Restoration times range between this evening and tomorrow evening. However, many outage locations on the smaller islands have no crews assigned yet, so those restorations will probably take a few more days.
“Due to the extent of the damage, it will take several more days to restore power to all customers,” says BC Hydro.
Trees down across wires and/or wires down are the main reasons for these outages in the aftermath of the December 20 windstorm. This is “Day 8” of the restoration phase.
There are 653 customers without power in the north island region (Courtenay, Ladysmith, Nanaimo, North Cowichan, Port Alberni, Qualicum Beach, Ucluelet).
