As traffic advisories go, this is a biggie for commuters to and through the west shore. Though schools are on spring break so that does reduce the traffic flow somewhat.

Paving will be done on Sooke Road (where it becomes Island Highway) in Colwood on a busy Tuesday, tomorrow March 21, from 7 am to 6 pm. That route carries commuters from Sooke, Langford and Colwood through to View Royal and Highway 1 and beyond. It’s a busy workday morning commuter route.

The entire area is significant for workday commuter, shopper and commercial traffic.

Goldstream Ave where it ends at Sooke Road is near the shopping mall anchored by Thrifty Foods. The Onni residential-commercial development is along Sooke Road there, as well as the busy Colwood Corners mall anchored by London Drugs, TD Bank, and other frequently-visited commercial outlets including on the other side a medical clinic, Westland Insurance, Pilgrim Coffee House, and The Academy of Excellence.

Expect significant traffic delays 7 am to 6 pm during paving along Sooke Road (Highway 14), and consider alternative routes to avoid delays, says City of Colwood Engineering.

The paving work:

Paving works will be done along the northbound lanes of Sooke Road from Colwood Crescent to Belmont Road as well as paving works within the Sooke Road/Goldstream Ave intersection.

Expect single-lane traffic along the northbound lanes in front of the Colwood Corners (Onni) development on Sooke Road near the end point of Goldstream Ave.
