by Mary P Brooke | Island Social Trends | SUMMER CALENDAR OF EVENTS
Changes in 2023 to the annual Sooke Fine Arts Show (SFAS) include a shift to Friday nights (from Thursdays) for the two biggest social events of the show.
The Purchasers’ Preview will be on Friday July 28 (7 pm) and the Artist Celebration will be on Friday August 4.
This will help to avoid parking congestion with other local events. Tickets go on sale on our website early May. [See 2022 Artist Celebration coverage]
Fixed dates for artist submissions:
Another big change for the show is a fixed date schedule for the Artist Call for Submissions.
Starting this year, it will always be open March 15 and close on June 1. This will help artists plan ahead.| Click here for 2023 Submission Guidelines.
Shorter show:
Perhaps the most notable change for loyal returning patrons will the 10-day show window, instead of 11 days.
This year’s show will run July 29 to August 7. Once again, at the SEAPARC Leisure Complex arena, which becomes professionally transformed into a world-class art exhibit for the Sooke Fine Arts Show each year.
Volunteers wanted:
Some of the show’s costs will be higher this year, including labor to set up the venue. “Volunteering is a fabulous way to participate in your community and feel a deeper connection with the show. Complete a shift and get a free day pass to the show!”, say organizers.
The 2023 SFAS Kick-Off to learn about the volunteer team shifts will be on Saturday, April 15 (1:30 to 3:30 pm) at Holy Trinity Church, 1962 Murray Rd, Sooke.
Youth art scholarship:
Each year the Sooke Fine Arts Society offers up to two annual scholarships to assist young artists in pursuing post-secondary studies in the arts. Our goal is in to make education in the arts accessible to more talented young artists. Submissions are now open until May 15, 2023. Click here for more info.
