Community Leadership Calendar – September 2022:


This Fall a new BC NDP Leader will be chosen, after which Premier John Horgan will step down and return to being ‘just’ an MLA in Langford-Juan de Fuca. The next provincial election is presently set for Fall 2024. | Horgan announced his step back from politics on June 28, 2022. | Editorial: Five years of NDP government, great strides.

Back to school in SD62. | Delay in opening new Centre Mountain Lellum Middle School due to construction supply chain issues & labour shortages. SD62 says students who expected to attend Centre Mountain Lellum (middle) starting Sept 6 should go to Spencer Middle (Gr 6), Pexsisen Elementary (Gr 7), & Dunsmuir Middle (Gr 8). Bus transportation will be provided to support any disruptions for Centre Mountain Lellum students. More info.

Friday September 30. National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Friday September 30. Pacific FC home game against FC Edmonton. At Starlight Stadium in Langford. Pre-match ceremony by representatives from Beecher Bay, Esquimalt, Tsartlip, Songhees, Cowichan nations. Fans attending the match are encouraged to wear orange. Ceremonial tribute at 6:45 pm (Pacific), match begins at 7 pm.

Wednesday October 5. Tsunami warning systems siren testings are audibly tested with the Westminster Chimes tone on the first Wednesday of each month at 1 pm. At Port Renfrew, Pacheedaht First Nation and Jordan River Regional Park. Sirens are tested silently each day, says CRD.
