While many folks were probably busy getting ready to head to the soccer match at Starlight Stadium or out doing Christmas shopping, this happened:

On Friday December 1, at approximately 4:50 pm, West Shore RCMP responded to a report of a home invasion near the 3000-block of Glen Lake Rd in Langford. Sunset was at 4:21 pm, so there was cover of darkness.

Police say they were on scene within minutes of receiving the call and learned that a male suspect had pushed his way into the victim’s home after the front door had been opened to determine why the victim’s dogs were barking.

“After the victim’s dogs challenged the suspect, he allegedly brandished a black handgun before leaving the home and running toward Alouette Drive. The victim did not sustain any physical injuries from this incident,” says Nancy Saggar, Media Relations Officer, West Shore RCMP.

Frontline officers contained the area and a police dog was deployed. “The area was searched extensively however, police were unable to locate the suspect,” says Saggar. Officers also canvassed the neighbourhood for witnesses and CCTV.

“The victim and suspect are not known to each other. Police believe this is an isolated incident as similar reports of this nature have not been received,” says Saggar.

The suspect is described by West Shore RCMP as:

  • Caucasian male in his late 20’s – early 30’s without facial hair;
  • Short to medium dark hair which protruded from underneath a hat;
  • Slim build (approx. 150 pounds); approx. 5’6-5’8 tall;
  • A dime-sized red mark, possibly a scar or birthmark on his right cheek/lower jaw;
  • Wearing a black hat, black jacket, grey shirt, dark pants, athletic style footwear with black and white stripes;

Police are asking the residents living in the area to check their home surveillance cameras for the period between 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm on Friday December 1, and report any findings to police.

Update December 4, 2023: Another home invasion on December 2 (in Songhees Nation / View Royal) is not related to the December 1 in Langford, says RCMP.
