There’s a lot of wind and rain on south Vancouver Island tonight. Well, after all, it’s November!
Wind warning:
This Sunday, late afternoon (5:24 pm), Environment Canada issued a wind warning for Greater Victoria, saying that strong winds which may cause damage were expected or occurring this evening, through to tomorrow afternoon, Monday November 15.
The hazard is described as strong westerly winds that will impact Victoria with gusts up to 90 km/h near Juan de Fuca Strait.
“A sharp cold front stalling across southern Vancouver Island through Monday morning will finally move forward into Washington state Monday afternoon. In its wake, gale to storm force westerly winds will rise in Juan de Fuca Strait. Across most of Greater Victoria, winds will rise to 30 to 60 km/h. However, exposed coastal sections near the Strait will experience westerly winds of 60 km/h with gusts to 90.”
“High winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break.”

Rainfall warning:
As of 4:43 PM today Sunday November 14 Environment Canada issued a rainfall warning being in effect for Greater Victoria, with 75 to 100 mm of rain by noon on Monday.
Timespan: Tonight and Monday morning.
This is resulting from a “significant atmospheric river event that continues to bring copious amounts of rain to southeastern Vancouver Island and the Southern Gulf Islands tonight and Monday morning”.
Most locations have already received 30 to 50 mm of rain beginning late Saturday. Heavy rain will continue tonight and Monday morning, giving an additional 30 to 60 mm. It will ease late Monday morning as the system exits the region.
Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.
“High winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break.”
