Rebecca MacKenzie could hardly believe her eyes when all four of her Extra numbers in the Lotto 6/49 draw on December 26, 2020 appeared, meaning she was the winner of a cool $500,000.
“I logged on to check. My BC/49 ticket said it was a winner, and I had won $1 there,” says MacKenzie. “I saw I also had a winner for the Lotto 6/49 draw, and that one said $500,000. I remember turning to my boyfriend and telling him ‘I think I just won $500,000’ quietly.”
The math and French teacher in Courtenay on central Vancouver Island bought her winning ticket on PlayNow.com .
MacKenzie says she had been house hunting and says the half million dollars will be opening up some new options in her search.
Impact of the pandemic on overall winnings:
Total BC Lottery prize winnings were $785 million in 2019 and even higher at $797 million in 2018. During the pandemic year of 2020, total winnings were lower at $691 million.
