~ West Shore Voice News
On Wednesday afternoon, December 17, there was a two-vehicle collision on the Malahat section of Highway 1 north of the West Shore Parkway in Langford.
West Shore RCMP responded around 1:23 pm.
A Honda Civic was headed southbound on the highway while a Mazda 3 was headed northbound, says Cpl Nancy Saggar, Media Relations Officer, West Shore RCMP.
“Investigators learned that the driver of the Mazda 3 lost control of the steering wheel and veered into the oncoming lane colliding with the Honda Civic head on,” she said in a news release.
Traffic was shut down in both directions for just over an hour while crews worked to clear the vehicles from the highway. Both drivers sustained minor injuries and were transported to hospital by BC Ambulance Service.
Investigators believe the cause of the collision was due to the driver of the Mazda 3 experiencing a medical emergency. “There were passengers in both vehicles, luckily there were no life threatening injuries and everyone is expected to make a full recovery”, said Cst. Saggar.
