‘Conrad’ development in Vancouver’s core area will provide 115 units at affordable rental rates for 60 years.

Trudeau is scheduled to make an affordable housing announcement on Monday during a tour of theĀ Conrad rental housing development on 1771 East 18th Avenue, right off Commercial Drive, for which leasing begins summer 2019. The federal government contributed $40 million to the subsidized rental development of 115 units to provide living spaces for families. The project includes two apartment buildings — one is 3.5-storeys and the other 6 storeys. There will also be a 3-storey infill townhouse and a 2-storey restored heritage house. A community centre, elementary school and veterinary hospital are located nearby. More than 60% of the units will have rents at or lower than 30% of the median household income. This affordability, in agreement with the City of Vancouver, is to be maintained for 60 years.

In the afternoon on Monday, Trudeau will meet with the CEO of TELUS, Darren Entwistle.

Bill Morneau, Shaw, Freedom Mobile, Victoria
Finance Minister Bill Morneau made Freedom Mobile announcement February 8, 2019 in Victoria.

Just a few days ago, federal Finance Minister Bill Morneau made an announcement for Shaw-owned Freedom Mobile which is expanding its network in the Victoria-area. It has taken a while for Shaw to achieve adequate cell tower opportunity on the west side of the island; while Langford welcomed towers with open arms, the idea of more wireless activity in the airwaves was given resistance in some communities including Sooke.
