There are traffic delays on Highway 1 at McKenzie Ave in Victoria this morning due to a power outage that has caused signalized traffic lights to be offline, said Mainroad South Island at 10:30 am this morning Monday July 15.

Latest update from DriveBC at 12:38 pm says the lights are still out and traffic delayed. Next update 1 pm.

This is the location of continued highway construction for the McKenzie Interchange, which has a target completion date of summer 2020.

Traffic in both directions is affected by the outage of the traffic signal at Exit 6 at McKenzie Ave, says Drive BC, advising to “expect major delays”. Their next update will be at 12 noon.

There is no power outage listed on the BC Hydro website, as the cause of the localized outage was due to a dump truck hitting the traffic lights, says BC Hydro media rep Karla Louwers. No BC Hydro customers are directly affected in homes or businesses in the area.

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure has Tweeted that the impact of the truck on the traffic lights caused the traffic signal outage.
