A judicial recount has produced a win for the Liberal candidate in a Quebec federal riding by just one vote.

If there is ever an instance of where “every vote counts” reinforces that truth, this is it.

The current tally brings the number of Liberal seats to 170. A majority requires 172 seats in the 343-seat 45th Parliament.

As things stand now, the seat count for the House of Commons in the 45th Parliament will be: Liberal 170, Conservative 144, Bloc 21, NDP 7, Green 1.

Liberal win in Terrebonne:

Liberal candidate Tatiana Auguste was declared the winner on election night in Terrebonne (with a winning margin of 35 votes), but an automatic recount was done due to a close margin of votes which then produced the Bloc Québécois  candidate Nathalie Sinclair-Desgagné as the winner.

But further, a judicial recount in Terrebonne this past weekend has produced a final win for Auguste. A judicial recount which is finalized by a judge cannot be appealed.

Ridings where any candidate wins by less than 0.1% is standard practice.

Federal cabinet announcement May 13:

It will be interesting to see how much of a nod Prime Minister Mark Carney will give to symbolically important winners when announcing his new cabinet tomorrow, May 13.

MPs like Tatiana Auguste are not high-profile but putting her in cabinet tomorrow would trumpet the success of the returning Liberals.

Carney and his cabinet will be sworn in on Tuesday at 10:30 am ET (7:30 am Pacific) in Ottawa by Governor General Mary Simon.
