On this Mother’s Day, this morning a passenger on on of the BC Ferry vessels experienced a medical emergency that required immediate medical attention.
As a result, the 9:00 am vessel sailing on our Tsawwassen (Vancouver) to Swartz Bay (Victoria) route was currently operating 63 minutes behind schedule, as reported out by BC Ferries at 10 am.
They expected the 11:00 am departing Swartz Bay, the 1:00 pm departing Tsawwassen, and the 3:00 pm departing Swartz Bay to also be delayed. Please check Current Conditions if planning to travel that BC Ferries route today.
Reservation status:
If you have a reservation on an upcoming sailing today, please arrive during the check-in window noted in your booking confirmation email to maintain your reserved status.
This ensures we can stage your vehicle at the terminal ahead of standby customers and those reserved on later sailings.

Best wishes:
“We wish our fellow passenger a speedy recovery,” said BC Ferries in their travel advisory today.
Marine highway:
Incidents like this underscore the importance of the BC Ferries service as part of the transportation network for Vancouver Island and coastal BC.

During the federal election campaign, Island Social Trends asked then-candidate (now MP-elect) Will Greaves if he would push for more federal funding for the BC Ferries system — similar to how the Atlantic provinces get federal financial support for their ferry network.
