The daily landscape of all things COVID-19 keeps changing around every community.
There are daily instructions, advisories and updates about things so simple, but so powerfully important: wash your hands frequently and well, wear a mask when you go out, wear gloves when shopping, and keep a six-foot distance between yourself and others when you’re out of the house for only the most essential of errands. And otherwise, self-isolate at home.
All of this became re-emphasized today by Premier John Horgan with his announcement that the State of Emergency in BC has been extended for another two weeks.
In Langford the LED billboard above the Westhills Arena parking lot has some new messaging this week about the most basic of things like grocery shopping and walking your dog — in both cases, keep a six-foot (two-metre) distance between yourself and others.
All of this — the instructions, the new behaviours, and the signage itself — are the signs of a ‘new normal’ during an infectious pandemic, which hardly feels normal at all.
Only a month or two ago, this would have been a script unbelieved. Now we believe it, we are living it.
Businesses that remain open (essential services, food takeout, etc) are asked to do their part, and by April 20 to be open in accordance with not only the Provincial Health Officer’s orders but the new bylaws in Langford that will come into effect once approved at the City of Langford council meeting on Monday April 20.
Yesterday and today the City of Langford had their mobile COVID-Langford van out in various parking lots at various times, to sell masks to businesses and provide other information about COVID-19 requirements.
The Langford.com/StayInformed page has tons of information about COVID-19 for residents and businesses.
