Pacific Football Club returns to Westhills Stadium this evening to face Valour FC in the second game of their 2019 Canadian Premier League (CPL) campaign. Valour will make the trek from Winnipeg to make their league debut, with kick-off set for 8:00 pm PDT.

The Pacific FC team will be aiming for back-to-back wins to start the 2019 season, after posting a 1-0 victory in front of an electric, sold-out crowd last Sunday in Langford. The clean sheet win was the first by any club in CPL history. German defender Hendrik Starosztik registered the lone goal in the match in the 23rd minute with a header off a beautiful taken corner from midfielder Noah Verhoeven.

“After the exciting first game we are looking for another good performance,” said Michael Silberbauer, Head Coach, Pacific FC. “Each game starts from zero and we know we again have to put our best effort and energy into the game to be able to win.”

Lukas MacNaughton is ruled out for tonight’s match due to suspension, McCurdy is likely to make his first start of the year.

Adding to the evening’s line up Pacific FC has sighed U SPORTS draft pick Zach Verhoven (Ver-Hoe-Ven) to a professional contract.

Verhoven, the second round (ninth overall) pick was drafted in November by Pacific FC in the league’s inaugural CPL – U SPORTS Draft. He has been training with Pacific FC since March, joined the club for their inaugural match versus HFX Wanderers last Sunday at Westhills Stadium. The UBC forward registered seven assists and a pair of goals for the T-Birds in the 2018 U SPORTS season.

“Since Zach joined us in March he has worked hard to become a better player,” said Silberbauer. “We are very happy to have him as he adds something slightly different from what we already have on the roster.”

Verhoven joins 17 players who have been named to Pacific FC’s roster, including Marcel de Jong, Marcus Haber, Kadin Chung, Mark Village, Nolan Wirth, Ben Fisk, Victor Blasco, José Hernandez, Matthew Baldisimo, Terran Campbell, Noah Verhoeven, Alessandro Hojabrpour, Hendrik Starostzik, Lukas MacNaughton, Blake Smith, Issey Nakajima-Farran and Ryan McCurdy.
