There was a power surge for many households in the Sooke area at 9:09 pm this evening, January 3 — with power off for just a few minutes. Meanwhile about 34 BC Hydro customers west of Sooke (west of Manatu Rd, north of Chubb Rd, south of Wieland Rd, east of Kemp Lake Rd) fully lost power. [See map]

The cause is under investigation, on this rainy night but with less wind than in the December 20 storm. A repair crew was not yet assigned as of 9:30 pm, but by 11 pm the word is that a crew will arrive by 11:45 pm this evening.

About 975 BC Hydro customers were without power this evening in the south Vancouver Island area at 9:30 pm, with most of those on Galiano Island, 34 west of Sooke, and 11 in Duncan. That was down to 644 customers without power by 11 pm (including some on Saturna Island at that point).
