The 2019 Langford Mayor’s Golf Tournament raised about $100,000 on Thursday.

The event held at Bear Mountain Resort — golf by day, and fundraising dinner by evening — is an annual event to rustle up funds from the Langford business community in support of various charities in the region.

This year the sponsor list featured the Sarah Beckett Memorial Playground organizing group (under the umbrella of West Shore Rotary) that received $10,000 as announced by Langford Mayor Stew Young who emceed the entire evening event in the ballroom.

Other recipient charities were Wounded Warriors Canada, Boxing BC, Community Living Victoria, Goldstream Food Bank, JDF Lacrosse, Keep Girls in Sports, Goddess Run, Juan de Fuca Minor Hockey, Juan de Fuca Soccer, RCMP Auxiliary, Langford Minor Fastball, Another Brick in Nepal, Rebels Football, Malahat Nations, Sports Assist, Recreation Adaptive Society, Women’s Auxiliary, Westshore Junior Rugby, Royal Canadian Legion 91 (Langford), Saunders Family Foundation, Sooke School District 62 (SD62) sports programs, Langford Volunteer Fire, Rugby Canada, Westshore Sunrise Rotary, and Grizzlies Hockey.

The event was sponsored by the City of Langford in partnership with Seacliff Properties Ltd. Additional featured sponsors were Forbes Group, Slegg Building Materials, Victoria Contracting, Custom Pro Exteriors, Keycorp Consulting, Westhills, Southpoint, West Shore Environmental, WSP Canada, Westbrook Consulting, Allterra Construction, Jagpal Developments, and JE Anderson.

Mayor Young referred to building new schools in the west shore as a “growth industry”. Attending from SD62 were Superintendent Scott Stinson, SD62 Chair Ravi Parmar, and SD62 Trustees Bob Beckett, Wendy Hobbs, and Dianna Seaton.

It was also an opportunity to promote the upcoming Westhills Stadium Grand Opening on August 24 (which includes the official opening of the Sarah Beckett Memorial Playground), the next Pacific FC game (also August 24), and a Rugby Canada BC All-Stars game coming up August 30 at Westhills Stadium.

Tickets for the buffet dinner went for $95. This year there was arranged seating, compared to last year that was a stand-up mingling affair. Golfers got a swag bag of take-home goodies, as well as a chance for draws for the tickets they bought out on the golf course during the day.

The 18 hole sponsors this year were: Raylec Power, Verity Construction, Capital City Paving, Coast Environmental, Wensley Architecture, GE Contracting, Tetra Tech Canada, TD Commercial Banking, On Point Project Engineers, Maxxam Insurance, Islander Engineering, Island Asphalt, Iconix Waterworks, C-1 Contractors, Rob Tournour Masonry, Young Anderson, Four Points by Sheraton, and Colliers International.

The live auction action went well past the promised 9:30 pm wrap-up.
