Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke with UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson by phone today July 26, 2019. Trudeau has been on vacation in British Columbia.

The two leaders reaffirmed the rich and diverse bilateral relationship between Canada and the United Kingdom, which is founded on a deep shared history, people-to-people ties, and common values. They underscored their commitment to seeking a seamless transition on bilateral trade and investment post-Brexit.

As stated in a media release today, Trudeau congratulated Prime Minister Johnson and wished him success in his new role.

Canada’s prime minister indicated he is looking forward to working with the UK’s new prime minister on common interests such as international trade, human rights, media freedom, relations with China, peace and security including in Ukraine, climate change, and supporting the rules-based international order.

Johnson has vowed to the UK population that he will deliver Brexit on or before October 31, 2019 — with or without a deal in place with the European Union. Crashing out of the EU (with no deal) could make a united Ireland more likely (outside of the UK), said Ireland’s Prime Minister Leo Varadkar in the news today.
