A pride flag will be raised at District of Metchosin municipal hall on Thursday June 29 at 10 am.

Mayor Marie-Térèse Little says she asked council consideration to fly the pride flag during the weeks surrounding the 2023 Victoria pride parade and festivities.

Mayor Little also asked for staff to bring in a flag policy like the one in the District of Sooke where they post flag notifications about when and why flags are lowered or changed.

“It is important to show that Metchosin is a tolerant, inclusive and welcoming community to everyone no matter the colour of your skin, the language you speak, your creed, religion or sexual/gender orientation,” said Mayor Little in a statement today.

“This is a community with diverse opinions. However to me, it doesn’t matter who you are or who you love. Love is love, afterall,” she said.

West Shore RCMP:

The West Shore RCMP were invited by Mayor Little to participate in the first-ever Pride flag raising over Metchosin municipal hall.

Together with Metchosin Public Works the flag was raised “in celebration of Pride and in support of 2SLGBTQIA+ community members in Metchosin and across Canada”, it was stated by West Shore RCMP on June 29.

“There is no room for hate and discrimination in our community,” said Mayor Little.

“We celebrate the many ways our 2SLGBTQIA+ friends, family members, and neighbours make our district and province a better place to live,” says Cst Andrew Matheson.
