Mother’s Day celebrations include Mayday for Mother Earth on Sunday May 12 at Royal Bay Secondary in Colwood.

From 12 noon to 4 pm, it’s a family-friendly event with free admission. Plenty of parking.

This event by the Greater Victoria Climate Reality Hub brings together community groups in the Westshore to talk about climate solutions.

A panel will include these municipal representatives: Langford Councillor Mary Wagner, Colwood Councillor David Grove of Colwood, View Royal Councillor Alison MacKenzie, and Metchosin Councillor Steve Gray.

Learn more about  climate change in the west shore region and what people are doing about it. Climate specialists and local youth activists.

Information in displays will include local watersheds, electric vehicles, biosolids, soil health, the value of a reusable coffee cup, and how growing your own vegetables helps you and the planet!

Take in short documentaries, small group discussions, and eco-art by local artists Tanya Bub and Kathy Saluke and many talented Westshore high school students.

There will be exhibits by local nonprofits and community groups including the new Urban Food Resilience Initiatives Society.

Sustainable vendors will offer quality Mother Earth-friendly Mother’s Day gifts and treats.

Food trucks and tasty snacks onsite.

Childminding for ages 3 to 7 years is available courtesy of Colwood Kids ECC (space is limited) during the panel discussion in the theater.
