The Chidlow Connector opened today Monday March 28 at 9 am.
A rainy day, but any day to open a new traffic route is a good one in Langford.
Drivers already using the road. It’s the new way to get to Luxton from the highway. There are crosswalks across Luxton for pedestrians.
Coming up this Wednesday March 30, Luxton Road will be closed permanently from Sooke Road (Hwy 14) over to Marwood Road.
Residential area:
The Luxton area — within the Happy Valley neighbourhood — is almost entirely residential, with schools and community hall in the area. New housing is going in along Luxton (on former farm land), catching up with long rows of residential housing nearby on Hazelwood, Merlin, Piper and Brown which were constructed approximately 2011 to 2013.
Luxton Community Hall:
Luxton Community Hall (operated by the Metchosin Farmers’ Institute) is on Marwood, for which access will now have to be via Happy Valley Road.
Or, first onto the Chidlow Connector, then turn left onto Luxton, then right onto Marwood.
Signal lights on Hwy 14:
Signal lights on Hwy 14 (at the Slegg Lumber entrance) were installed in December 2021. Those traffic signal lights at Sooke Road and the Chidlow Connector were activated on February 2, 2022.
School bus routes:
The City of Langford has notified SD62 regarding their SD62 school bus routes.
“This change affects a handful of riders on two different routes in the Sooke School District,” it has been stated today by the Transportation department at SD62.
“Affected families on those two routes have already been notified and we are prepared for April 4th when school resumes.” Schools in the west shore are currently on spring break.
BC Transit routes:
BC Transit has also been notified by the City of Langford. BC Transit has made appropriate plans to continue service in the area, according to City of Langford Engineering.
Today BC Transit says that due to these changes, starting March 30, 2022 routes 54 and 55 are permanently rerouted to the following:
- 54 & 55 to Langford Exch: from Marwood, left Luxton, right Chidlow Connector, right Sooke to regular route.
- 54 Metchosin & 55 Happy Valley: from Sooke, left Chidlow Connector, left Luxton, right Marwood to regular route.
Route changes will not affect the service to any of the bus stops along the routes.
Driver attention in real-time:
Google Maps may take several months to be updated with this new street configuration. Drivers are asked to use caution while traffic adjusts to these new driving patterns.
“The City has no control over these external services and when they are updated,” it was stated this week by Langford Engineering.
