The Cowichan Valley School District (SD79) has announced the appointment of Jeff Rowan as Interim Superintendent.
The appointment is effective Monday November 18, 2024.
Rowan will undertake the Superintendent’s role while the district undergoes the process of appointing a permanent superintendent.
Rowan is currently the Assistant Superintendent of Communications, Indigenous Education and holds several other leadership portfolios.” His experience and familiarity with the schools, staff and community make him well-suited to guide the district during this period,: says SD79 in a media release today.
Schools:
There are 17 Elementary schools and 5 Secondary schools in the Cowichan Valley School District.
Thanking Robyn Gray:
This appointment follows the departure of Superintendent Robyn Gray who has accepted the position of Superintendent with the Nanaimo-Ladysmith School District (SD68).
“We thank Robyn for her service and leadership, and wish her success in her new role,” says SD79.
“Robyn spent the majority of her career in the Nanaimo-Ladysmith School District before coming to the Cowichan Valley District 5 years ago. She did great work in Cowichan, and when that Superintendent position became available she made the decision to return to Nanaimo-Ladysmith to finish work there,” says Rowan.
Communications role since April 2024:
Rowan has been the media contact and communications lead for the Cowichan Valley School District (SD79) since April 2024 when the former communications rep with SD79 (Mike Russell) moved on to a new role at Simon Fraser University.
New secondary school:
The big item for the Cowichan School District is the opening of the new Quw’utsun Secondary School early in 2025.
“This has been a project that our community has been thinking about for over 25 years and now we are months away from having a fantastic new school open for the students!,” says Rowan.
