The usual Halloween bonfire in Esquimalt is cancelled this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but is being replaced with a fun family drive-thru/walk-thru with free treats being given out on Saturday October 31.

The Esquimalt Drive-Thru / Walk-Thru Halloween will take place from 5 to 8 pm behind Archie Browning Arena, hosted by the Esquimalt Lions Club.

  • Vehicles: Just drive up to the Drive Through Table to receive a hand-out bag of prepacked Halloween Treats (two distribution sites — enter off Lyall St or Esquimalt Rd).
  • Pedestrians: Walk Through – follow the directions to the distribution table to receive your bag of prepackaged Halloween Treats. All COVID protocols will be maintained.

“There will be decorations, and children wll be given a free bag of prepackaged candy,” says Lin McPhee of the Esquimalt Lions Club.

“We wanted the kids to have an opportunity to get dressed up and collect some treats in a safe environment,” says McPhee. Prepared for a good turnout, she and her team have prepared 500 candy bags.

“This would have been our 68th year for the bonfire,” she adds.

The COVID-19 virus is known to spread by close inter-personal contact. This event will follow physical-distancing protocols.
