In response to the ongoing COVID-19 health emergency, the CRD released an update to their service profile on March 23, saying they continue to take precautionary measures in support of the Public Health Agency of Canada and the BC Ministry of Health and their efforts to contain the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
CRD Facility Updates:
Hartland Landfill
Hartland Landfill remains open to the public. The Hartland Public Drop-off Depot is experiencing significant customer volumes and may have service level delays and reductions throughout the day during regular operating hours until further notice.
CRD Operated Campgrounds
Effective March 23, 2020, Jordan River Campground has been closed to the public.
Regional Parks
All CRD Regional Parks remain open. The CRD is reviewing parks operations daily based on social distancing behaviour. We strongly recommend that the public follow the appropriate protocols outlined by the Provincial Health Officer. Parks staff will have a higher presence and be assisting with educational behaviour on social distancing.
CRD Operated Playgrounds
To support community health and prevent the spread of COVID-19, CRD playgrounds remain closed.
Wastewater Treatment Project
Construction activities continue on the CRD’s Wastewater Treatment Project and all contractors have implemented additional safety precautions on all sites as directed by the Provincial Health Officer.
Visitor Guidelines for Islands
Southern Gulf Islands and Salt Spring Island
People are being strongly encouraged to stop all unnecessary travel to the Southern Gulf Islands and Salt Spring Island in an effort to minimize the spread of COVID-19 and to reduce pressure on limited island services. Many island businesses, including restaurants, are understocked, understaffed, and closing down or significantly limiting their services. BC Ferries has reduced sailings to the Southern Gulf Islands while continuing to be an essential service for coastal communities. Residents of the islands are strongly encouraged to follow the direction of the provincial health officer.
CRD Staff
“The health and safety of our employees is our top priority. A work from home policy is now in effect for staff where operationally feasible to meet current emergency directives and requirements, including the current requirements for social distancing and self-isolation.”
