Today Island Health has declared the COVID-19 outbreak at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH) to be over.

“There are no longer any COVID-19 cases related to the outbreak at the site,” it was stated in a release this afternoon.

The outbreak was first declared on Wednesday November 11 after evidence of transmission between staff on the Transitions Unit. Five staff cases were identified related to this outbreak. No patients were affected, it was stated in today’s release.

Upon declaring the outbreak, Island Health immediately implemented precautions, including enhanced cleaning as well as contact tracing to protect the health of all staff, medical staff, students and patients.

The Transitions Unit at NRGH is now open again to new admissions and transfers.
