Friday, December 7 ~ COLWOOD.

The City of Colwood kept their Christmas Lightup marketing to a minimum this year, hoping to not run out of free hot dogs so quickly! But it’s a popular annual event that is important for the city and shouldn’t have to rely on word of mouth and whoever has signed up for the city’s e-news.

Family activities indoors at 2018 City of Colwood Christmas Lightup.

Held last night Thursday, December 6 at Colwood City Hall, 3300 Wishart Road, there was live outdoor Christmas music by a children’s choir, Santa arrived on a firetruck, and indoors there were crafts and activities for the kids.

With temperatures near zero, hundreds of people, many of them young families, attended and participated in the event.

The festivities started at 6 pm with a short hello to the crowd from Colwood Mayor Rob Martin from the stage. Lively and non-stop upbeat music and food lineups, the 6 to 8 pm event faded out quickly outdoors by 7:30 pm after Santa went indoors to warm up!

Hot chocolate was provided by Bitez Sandwich Bar, hot dogs by Red Barn Market, and apple fritters by the Royal Bay Bakery.

As every year, Councillor Gordie Logan manned the hot dog station. This year Councillor Cynthia Day and Councillor Michael Baxter helped with the hot chocolate. Councillor Dean Janzen pitched in too.

Good time had by all.
