Capital City Comic Con announced on Friday March 13 that they have cancelled their 2020 event that was to be held March 20 to 22 at the Victoria Conference Centre.

Not really ever a natural match to have a downtown business corporate style organizing a grassroots counter-culture festivity, this year they are put on pause. Indicative of the awkward match is this wording, that the Downtown Victoria Business Association and Destination Greater Victoria “have loved watching our fans, exhibitors, volunteers and guests grow this community event into what it is today”.

Nevertheless, their news release says: “We know the uplifting power a fun and inclusive event holds and look forward to seeing all your smiling faces and incredible cosplay every year.”

One of their other organizing partners was the Cherry Bomb Toys retail outlet which specializes in collecting and reselling previously-owned comic/anime/fantasy items.

The organizers say the event has been “postponed” and that it’s not a decision they made lightly. In addition to the recent COVID-19 developments (BC saying all events with over 250 participants cannot be held during the pandemic), on March 9, 2020 the Screen Actors Guild (SAG AFTRA) issued a notice to its members that it would be in their best interest to cease flying for the foreseeable future. As a result some of Capital City Comic Con’s guests postponed their travel to Greater Victoria for the time being.

An alternative date for the activity later in 2020 is apparently being discussed with the venue (Victoria Conference Centre). “Due to the impact COVID-19 has had on all events, this process may take a little longer than usual,” perhaps a couple of weeks.

Apparently all purchased tickets will be completely transferable to any new dates announced in 2020. Anyone unable to attend the new dates will be able to get ticket refunds.

Any refund requests (for Capital City Comic Con, Nerdlesque or Comic Queens tickets) will be processed through Ticket Rocket which may take up to 10 business days for processing.
