Halloween safety
A safe Halloween is a Happy Halloween. That includes wearing bright reflective costumes if you’re out trick-or-treating, inspecting your collection of treats carefully afterward, and not lighting fireworks unsafely or without a permit.

Of course, it’s important to be safe on Halloween. Over the years, doing fireworks in residential backyards has been discouraged in favour of community gatherings — some of them still with a bonfire (as in Colwood this year).

The other aspect of safety is the unfortunate few cases that happen where handouts of treats around neighbours comes with problems. Inspect all candy and other items that your children receive during the ‘trick or treat’ activities.

Young trick or treaters should always be accompanied by an adult. Wear bright, reflective costumes if you’re out around the neighbourhoods at night and stay on the sidewalk or clearly marked pathways.

Retail stores, restaurants and coffee shops around the west shore get into the action with decorative window displays and decor for the Halloween season.
