On Wednesday evening March 12, there was a four-vehicle collision on Highway 1 in the Greater Victoria area.

West Shore RCMP responded to the motor vehicle accident (MVI) call around 4:05 pm, learning of a serious collision involving multiple vehicles near the 6 Mile Rd Exit on the Trans Canada Hwy (Highway 1).

Highway 1 was completely shut down in both directions at this location for approximately an hour.

One southbound lane has since been opened up, however the northbound lanes remained closed to about midnight on Wednesday night.

From video footage it appears one white southbound vehicle veered into the grassy boulevard between the southbound and northbound lanes; there are no barriers between the two directions of traffic.

The public was advised to expect lengthy traffic delays lasting through out the evening as emergency crews work the scene. The northbound lanes will remain closed for several hours. says Cpl. Nancy Saggar, Media Relations Officer, West Shore RCMP.

Fire rescue attended from Langford, Colwood and View Royal. Drivers of three vehicles had to be extricated with equipment. There were no passengers in any of the four vehicles involved in the crash.
