Even though the BC government recently announced that public sector workers in the province would observe the new September 30 National Day for Truth and Reconciliation as a statutory holiday, BC Transit announced yesterday that it would provide active service on that day.
That’s to ensure there is enough service for customers, said BC Transit in their news release August 5. They’ll be letting their customers know about regular service being provided across all transit systems on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30.
“BC Transit and the B.C. Government recognize the importance of honouring a day for Truth and Reconciliation. The government recently advised the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30 will be recognized as a holiday this year for all employees who are normally entitled to provincial and federal holidays,” it was stated in the BC Transit release.
After the holiday, BC Transit will evaluate ridership numbers to inform potential future schedules for this new holiday.
