In the last 24 hours there have been 158 more test-positive cases of COVID-19 in BC (out of 5,446 tests done), bringing the total to 10,892 since the beginning of the pandemic. No new deaths.

Of today’s new cases, 1,496 are active including 84 people in hospital (up from 77 since yesterday and 68 on Friday October 9 before the Thanksgiving long weekend). So far this year 872 people have been hospitalized with COVID-19 in BC.

There is also an increase in the number of hospitalized patients that are in ICU — today that’s 24 people (same as yesterday, but up from 19 before the long weekend).

Under public health watch:

There are 3,608 people (about the same number as yesterday) in self-isolation due to known exposure to the infectious virus (the highest number of people yet who are under active public health surveillance), as reported today in the statement from the Ministry of Health and Dr Henry.

Regional scope:

Most COVID cases in 2020 to date have occurred in the BC Lower Mainland area.

Most of the COVID case load since the start of the pandemic has been seen in the BC lower mainland — with 3,941 cases to date in the Vancouver Coastal Health region and 5,697 in the Fraser Health region. Interior Health has seen 585 cases. In the Northern Health region there have been 343 cases.

Here on Vancouver Island there have been 237 cases shown as test-positive in the Island Health region.

Canadians who normally reside outside of Canada but received care during their COVID infection here in Canada number at 89 cases.

Pay attention to how you’re feeling:

“One of the things that we can do to protect ourselves and those around us is to pay close attention to how we are feeling,” said Provincial Health Officer Dr Bonnie Henry in today’s written statement.

That includes doing a personal health check each day, she notes. “This is particularly important if we have recently spent time with people outside of our household bubble or ‘safe six'”.

A list of COVID-19 symptoms is posted on the BC Centre for Disease Control website.
