About 1,000 people showed up over the course of the evening at the 12th Annual Langford Lightup at Veterans Memorial Park this evening, December 1.
Crafts and preserves for sale at the 12th Annual Langford Christmas Lightup, December 1, 2018 [West Shore Voice News photo]As every year, the features of the outdoor evening event were an outdoor craft market, the arrival of Santa on a fire truck, hot dogs and hot chocolate, and the countdown to the lightup of the big tree that was first planted 63 years ago.
A relatively warmish winter’s night with zero rain probably contributed to the big turnout.
Most people stayed to watch the parade of decorated lit-up trucks head by around 8 pm at the corner of Goldstream Avenue and Veterans Memorial Parkway.

Also on hand for the short formal announcement was Alistair MacGregor, MP (Cowichan-Malahat-Langford) and Langford Councillors Lanny Seaton, Lillian Szpak, Denise Blackwell and Norma Stewart.
Earlier this month, decorative lighting was put up around the central area of town. The white lights stay up year-round.
