The new Pacific FC pro soccer club has opened a bright, spacious storefront in the heart of downtown Victoria, right across from the Bay Centre in the tourism hub of the capital city. There is ample promotional merchandise for sale, as well as memberships that will soon lead to ticket sales.

On hand for the six-hour retail opening was 20-year-old Kadin Chung, the first player to be signed to the Pacific FC roster.

Hosting the event were Pacific FC President Josh Simpson and CEO Rob Friend along with assistant coach James Merriman.

Chung was hand-picked by Pacific FC coach Michael Silberbauer after a university-level game in Vancouver earlier this month. Trials over two days November 5 and 6 at the UVic stadium saw 225 hopefuls go through the hoops for contract offers.

“I love the culture and atmosphere of soccer, just being out on the field,” says Chung. “It’s being in your own space,” he explains, similar to the total absorption of a creative art.

“Michael’s style of play fits well with how I like to play,” Chung told West Shore Voice News today. “It’s possession-based (loving to have control of the ball), attack-minded, and quick,” he explained.

Chung has played at the professional level for four years. Originally from Port Coquitlam in the Greater Vancouver area, he played for three years with the Vancouver Whitecaps2 and then for one year with the FC Kaiserslantern2 in Germany, returning to BC this past summer.

Simpson was pleased with the lineup of shoppers ahead of noon today to get into the store at 665 Fort Street, for prize giveaways. There are two logo themes — the full-colour purple, teal and white, as well as black/grey monotone.

Memberships are selling well.  Exclusive-seating suites at the Westhills Stadium location were grabbed up by sponsors at a pre-opening event at the store last night, attended by Langford VIPs and the business community.

The first Pacific FC season starts in April 2019 at Westhills Stadium, with 15 games in the lineup. On Twitter @pacificfccpl
