Quadra Street remained closed today for a signficant stretch (Union Rd to Tattersall Dr) near the location of a nearly-completed condo project where a fire broke out at about 12:40 am yesterday morning, November 20.

Assessments are still underway with the aim of having Quadra Street reopened to single-lane traffic by tomorrow (Friday November 22).
Construction of the building near Lodge Avenue had been nearly complete. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by Saanich Police, said the District of Saanich today.
BC Hydro teams worked through the night last night, restoring power to the surrounding residential area this morning. A telecommunications pole that sustained damage be be removed soon.
Public Works crews were on-site this afternoon to manage traffic, remove a damaged signal pole, repair street lights, and clear draining infrastructure.
All displaced residents were able to return to their homes yesterday.
The fire in the wee hours of Wednesday morning was further fueled by high winds (during the bomb cyclone that took down trees and power lines around Vancouver Island last night).The fire quickly spread with embers reaching as far as Saanich Road.
People could feel the heat of the fire from various distances. Cars along nearby streets incurred some melting due to the heat of the fire
