As if changing the clocks one-hour forward for daylight savings time wasn’t enough disruption for Vancouver Islanders this morning, there was a wakeup call about emergency preparedness at 8:31:53 am PDT.
That came in the form of an earthquake, magnitude 4.3, near Port Alice on north Vancouver Island: latitude 48.9 north, longitude 129.9 west, at a depth of 10 km, according to Natural Resources Canada (NRC).
No tsunami was expected. There are no reports of damage and none would be expected, said NRC.
Daylight Savings Time:
In BC today, clocks were turned forward at 2 am this Sunday morning, for the summer/fall Daylight Savings Time, until Sunday November 5 when time will go back to Standard Time.
Emergency kit:
Having an emergency kit ready at all times is a smart thing to do. Plus a grab-and-go bag for each member of your household, including pets.
Preparation of all those kids can take a bit of preparation and some expense, but it could be helpful for survival after a major event.
The Capital Regional District Prepare Yourself website has tons of information on a range of emergencies and what to do.
In the west shore region, the Juan de Fuca Emergency Program helps educate and support residents in East Sooke, Otter Point, and west out to Port Renfrew.
