“How often do students get to meet a national political leader?” said Alistair MacGregor, MP (Cowichan-Malahat-Langford) today.

He was out front of Belmont Secondary School in Langford, awaiting the arrival of NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh.

When Singh arrived there were some brief handshakes and greetings with school principal Laura Fulton, then swiftly into the building.

The event was closed to media this time. A few years ago, some speeches by MacGregor and Singh happened in the Learning Commons followed by a Q&A for the students and the public. This time evidently students will have a Q&A opportunity.

Jobs, student loans, youth mental health, the environment and maybe also the cost of living are likely topic on the minds of high school students.

The NDP is also interested in getting out the youth vote at election time, of course.

Then Singh and MacGregor will be off to meet for 45 minutes with Langford Mayor and Council, at city hall.

Jagmeet Singh has been doing a tour of most of Vancouver Island this week, including Campbell River, Nanaimo, Duncan and Cowichan, and then Victoria this evening.
