On Sunday, December 30 the memorial at Sooke Community Hall was well-attended for a 29-year-old Sooke resident killed in an workplace incident while tree-felling.
On the morning of December 17, 2018 Cam Sullivan, 29, was involved in a fatal “fall from height” accident, while working at an Eaglecrest Drive worksite around 11:40 am, said BC Coroner Andy Watson. Sooke RCMP are investigating but no further details have yet been released.
A GoFundMe page set up to support the family — as of this evening December 31 has reached $21,000 (raised by 183 people in 13 days, and far exceeding the $10,000 goal). On the page Cam is described as “kind, spontaneous, brilliant, funny and always put his family first”.
“Cam leaves behind his young family who he loved beyond words. He was so excited and proud to become a Dad to his daughter who became his whole world. The family thanks you for your donations, memories and thoughtful comments,” it was posted on GoFundMe where the supportive comments from local residents are numerous.
Doni Eve and Rick Kasper posted: “Our heartfelt condolences to your family at this very sad time”. Jason and Rose Dumont of Dumont Tire posted: “Keeping Cam’s family and friends in our thoughts and prayers”. The Shirley Volunteer Fire Department wrote: “Condolences to Cams family, fond memories of serving with Cam as a fire fighter.”
