The 2nd annual Canada Day event in Langford was a free community-wide event for locals to enjoy, as part of celebrations across the country on the 156th anniversary of Canada’s confederation.
Flowing through the on-ground areas at Starlight Stadium from 9 am to 3 pm on Saturday July 1 there were pancakes, music, performers, a pie-throwing contest, vendors with candy-sweets, the usual stadium concession.
The family activities included face painting, table-top games, and a chance run through some live-action first-responder activities with Langford Fire Rescue.
The City of Langford organized the event and had their promotional van on site, manned by city councillors through the day. Langford Mayor Scott Goodmanson was there to help with the pie-throwing activity.
Some pretty simple activities like a basic photo booth in a camper van seemed popular.
Parking was adequate and the music was loud. The weather cooperated with bright sunshine and enough of a breeze to cut the heat.
A number of promoted activities had waned off after 1:30 pm, but the grounds were abuzz until 3 pm.
Likely a couple of thousand people showed up throughout the six-hour event.
