Two jam-packed event-filled weekends are coming up back-to-back in Langford in this last half of August.

This weekend includes a Summer Splash fundraiser for the Sarah Beckett Memorial Playground on Saturday August 17 at the Cherish on the Park seniors condo building on Avrill Road (corner of Jacklin & Jenkins) with a pancake breakfast by donation 8:30-10:30 am. Rotary Club Playground Presentation 11 am. Hot dog and Burger Lunch by donation (12-1:30 pm). Dunk tank by donation, water games and fishing pond (1-4 pm).

On Saturday August 17 is this year’s Tour de Victoria Bicycle Race through Langford from 8 am to 10 am. There will be traffic delays along Happy Valley Road and Sooke Road from 8 am to 10 am; Glen Lake Road, Langford Parkway, Jacklin Road, Goldstream Avenue, and Atkins Avenue (8 am to 10 am). 

On Sunday August 18 is the highly popular 9th Annual Langford Show & Shine car show on Goldstream Avenue (10 am to 2 pm). The footprint of the cars on display has expanded this year to include Veterans Memorial Park with live music and where cars of the 1950’s and 1960’s will be showcased.

Next weekend is the big Westhills Stadium expansion celebration on Saturday August 24. That starts at 11 am with the official opening of the Sarah Beckett Memorial Playground followed by playtime for the kids up to 1 pm.

The official opening of the stadium begins at 1 pm with the Langford Parkway ticket entrance opening at that time (beer garden open); there will be speeches by Premier John Horgan and Langford Mayor Stew Young at 2:30 pm.

The Pacific FC home game vs York9 FC starts at 3 pm. A fully-packed stadium is hoped for. Tickets still available on the Pacific FC website.

Free parking will be available in various locations around the stadium area including next to the stadium, at the YM/YWCA on Langford Parkway, at Constellation Avenue, in the Belmont Secondary School parking lot, and at Westshore Town Centre (walking path to the stadium).
