Baking is a big deal! And so is winning on a popular TV show!
The November 24 episode of The Great Canadian Baking Show – 808 Finale saw Elora Khanom from Edmonton crowned as the winner, while Jen Childs from Esquimalt and Pamela Kramer from Stayner exited the tent.
Elora Khanom is a 42-year-old e-commerce process assistant in Edmonton. She has enjoyed baking since her childhood growing up in Bangladesh. After moving to Canada with her husband, she eventually reconnected with baking after learning that her son was diabetic. Her home baking allowed her son to enjoy treats with less sugar. Now it’s a form of relaxation and she enjoys infusing South Asian flavours into classically French desserts.
Jen Childs is a 45-year-old bookkeeper in Esquimalt. She set the record for most applications submitted before finally reaching the baking tent, having auditioned for the show every year since Season 1. Applying became an annual tradition that her husband and their three kids dubbed “baking season” as her experimentation with new treats kicked into high gear as soon as casting opened. Her perseverance paid off on the eighth-time around.
Pamela Kramer is a 34-year-old high school co-op teacher from Stayner, Ontario who helps her students try out potential careers by getting them placements in actual workplaces. She is known at school as the teacher who bakes, and her students and fellow faculty rave over her treats. Pamela’s parents moved to Canada from Uruguay. She and her dad enjoy learning new things together, recently learning to cure meats for the ultimate charcuterie spread.

The Great Canadian Baking Show is sponsored by Cuisinart. The popular show livestreams on CBC’s Gem on Sunday evenings, bringing together ten amateur bakers from across Canada to compete in a series of themed culinary challenges.
The success of its format includes the conversion of live participatory-TV along with the interest of ‘foodies’ and others with an interest in preparing exciting baked goods and desserts. Hosts and participants are featured from a wide range of sociocultural backgrounds, which helps generate a broad audience appeal.
The show has just wrapped up their 8th season.
