A new dual credit program at Camosun College this fall will give local Grade 11 and 12 students the opportunity to explore exciting careers in technology.
From computer programming and basic software design to creating electronic circuits, the unique “Discover Technology” program is being offered by Camosun College and the South Island Partnership, which includes the Greater Victoria, Cowichan, Saanich, Gulf Islands and Sooke school districts.
The full-time program is set to run at Camosun’s Interurban campus for one semester from September 2020 to the end of January 2021.
“Over five months, eligible high school students will have the chance to jump-start their education by earning dual credits for both high school and college, while expanding their skills in computer science, electronics, engineering, math and physics,” says Nicola Priestley, director of the South Island Partnership.
The program will be taught by high school and Camosun College instructors at the college’s Interurban campus.
Students will also have the opportunity to gain applied work experience with industry employers and tour local science and tech-related companies.
Grade 11 and 12 high school students from Greater Victoria, Cowichan, Saanich, Gulf Islands and Sooke School Districts interested in this special educational opportunity can apply by submitting the online SIP Program Application package to their school career teacher by March 13, 2020.
