Today the Starlight Stadium in Langford underwent a ceremonial renaming. The decision to rename the stadium was made much earlier this year, and quietly the signage was changed this spring ahead of the reopening of the stadium after more than a year of non-use during the COVID pandemic.
Formerly (and for a long time) known as Westhills Stadium, the venue with expanded seating has undergone several rounds of improvements over the past few years.
Starlight Stadium is named to recognize of a major investment by and partnership with Toronto-based Starlight Investments.
The official renaming was done today during Pacific FC’s match against Atlético Ottawa at 2 pm. The game was a tie match (1-1).
Shared passion for sports:
“Starlight shares your passion for sports and we’re proud to support Pacific FC, the Westshore Rebels and Rugby Canada at Starlight Stadium,” said Glen Hirsh, Chief Operating Officer, Starlight Investments. “We’ve been a part of the community on Vancouver Island for more than 10 years and look forward to continuing our involvement in the growth of its neighbourhoods.”
The stadium has a capacity of just over 6,000 seats and is home to Pacific FC, the Westshore Rebels football team and Rugby Canada. For concert events the capacity has been promoted as 7,500 as people can also use the field area during those events.
“The City of Langford is pleased that Starlight Investments, as the largest corporate sponsorship in Langford history, has the naming rights for the Stadium,” said Langford Mayor Stew Young. “This is a big deal for Langford and for Pacific FC and we are happy to have them on board.”
The enhancement and growth of the stadium is a key part of the City of Langford’s vision and goal to see Langford as a national sports capital.
