Well ahead of sunrise this morning, there was a head-on collision of two vehicles in the 4900-block of Highway 14 (Sooke Road).
The 4900-block of Highway 14 is between Impala Road and Connie Road, west of West Coast Tire but east of the newly developed section of highway. It’s a stretch of highway with curves and a history of motor vehicle incidents.
Weather was foggy this morning and temperatures hovering near zero, possibly impacting both visibility and road conditions.
West Shore RCMP says they responded to the call at about 5 am (sunrise was at 8 am). BC Emergency Health Services and Metchosin Fire and Rescue also attended.
A 41-year-old woman was travelling eastbound in a 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo when her vehicle crossed the centre line and collided head-on with a taxi that was travelling westbound, say RCMP.
The taxi was being driven by a 65-year-old man, with a young passenger.
“All parties suffered serious injuries and were taken to hospital via ambulance,” says Cpl Nancy Saggar, Media Relations Officer, West Shore RCMP.
Sooke Road was shut down in both directions for about two hours while emergency crews attended the scene.
RCMP investigation is still underway. Charges have not been laid at this time.
