A news conference will take place today at 11 am, following a meeting between the Honourable Janet Austin, Lieutenant Governor of BC and Premier John Horgan.

Premier Horgan will address “how British Columbians deserve a say in our economic recovery and will decide the future of our province”, it was stated in a news release at 9:45 am.

Horgan has held the Langford-Juan de Fuca seat (previously under other names, including simply Juan de Fuca) since 2005. Within his riding are the fast-growing communities of Langford and Sooke, as well as the more rural and remote area west of Sooke and Otter Point out to Port Renfrew.

Last week Horgan’s NDP government rolled out their Economic Recovery plan for keeping British Columbian families, businesses and communities afloat if not going forward during the continuing COVID-19 pandemic.

This week is the annual Union of BC Municipalities convention, with Horgan scheduled to speak on Thursday. The BC Green Leader Sonia Furstenau is scheduled to speak on Thursday as well. BC Liberal Leader Andrew Wilkinson is scheduled to speak on Wednesday.

The next regularly scheduled BC Election was, until now, set for October 16, 2020. Elections in BC must be held on a Saturday. Given the pandemic, mail-in ballots are likely to be more popular than ever.

The BC Green Party Leader will address media today at 12 noon, about the election likely to now occur on Saturday October 24 (within Elections BC guidelines as to the campaign period after the writ is dropped).
