Kindergarten registration for starting in September 2019 begins Monday January 28 in the Sooke School District 62 (SD62).
Families served with public education by SD62 are in Langford, Colwood, Metchosin, Highlands, Sooke, Juan de Fuca (East Sooke and west to Port Renfrew), and parts of View Royal.
Registration is entirely online (including the submission of required documentation), starting at 8 am on January 28. Parents then have seven (7) days to present original documents to their neighbourhood school.
Specifics about documentation and dates are on the SD62 website: http://www.sd62.bc.ca/parents/registration/ which includes details about providing proof of citizenship for both parent and children. At least one of the following for each of parent and child is required: original birth certificate, valid Canadian passport, status card, valid BC Services Card.
Proof of custody may be required in certain cases. Proof of residence is also required (there’s a locator function on the website to determine your catchment area),

SD62 Superintendent Scott Stinson says that registration at this point in the year helps the school district produce more accurate enrollment projections. This in turn helps determine the need for classroom space. Facilities budgets are also part of the planning.
