The annual Santa Skate at SEAPARC Leisure Complex was a big success on Sunday afternoon, December 15.

About 200 people attended to skate and do arts and crafts during the event that ran from 1 to 2:30 pm.

Admission was by donation to the Sooke Food Bank, and that effort produced $350 along with three large bins of non-perishable food items, as reported by Colleen Hoglund, Manager, Program Services, SEAPARC Leisure Complex.

The Sooke Arts Council hosted a Family Fun Art Day during the Skate with Santa.

About 100 children and parents made wreaths of fresh picked fir boughs, rubber stamped holiday cards, cut snowflakes and had their face painted.

The most popular face painting theme was that of Rudolph, with Christmas trees and snowflakes taking second place.

Hot chocolate and cookies were passed out and many attendees donated items for the Sooke Food Bank.

Food bank recipients note: Food hampers for pre-registered recipients can be picked up this Sunday, December 22 from 10 am to 2 pm at Sooke Community Hall (remember to bring ID).
